Ausiello: Good news. The Walkers' final two pre-strike outings air Feb. 10 and Feb. 17, and, man, do I have a little scoop for you. The latter episode features a guest turn by none other than Veronica's pa, Enrico Colantoni! And that's not the juiciest part, this is: He appears in what can only be described as a highly suggestive scene with another — hold onto your hats, Neptune Pirates — dude. And you'll recognize this dude since he's a series regular on the show.

Question: What's with the lack of Brothers & Sisters scoop lately? — Jeremy
Ausiello: Perhaps it has something to do with, oh, I don't know, a lack of actual episodes?! Just a theory. In any event, here are some highlights from the aforementioned two remaining pre-strike eppys:

• Someone leaves the show, most likely for good.
• Kevin chooses between Jason and Scotty.
• Multiple relationships end, but one of them permanently so.

Ausiello: Regardless of how the Scotty/Kevin/Jason triangle plays out, you did not wish death on Viva Laughlin for nothing. Believe me, the world is a much better place without that crappy show in it. Having said that, and without giving too much away, I can tell you that Kevin's initial choice isn't necessarily his ultimate choice.

We'll get 12 all together. Ep 12 is called "Compromises," and it will put many a love storyline on the line: Jason McCallister is back (working on his brother Senator McCallister's campaign), Kevin's friends convince Sarah to sign her divorce papers, and Saul gets thisclose to hooking up with a guy. What'd you all think of that scoop in this week's Vine show that a certain Walker might not be a Walker after all? Pretty bananas, no?

Tim in New York: Will Kevin be getting back together with Scotty anytime soon?
It looks that way. I'm hearing that in an upcoming episode, Sarah refers to Scotty as Kevin's boyfriend while she is out on the town with Scotty's friends. What will Jason say?!

Chevy Chase has been tapped for a multi-episode arc on ABC's "Brothers & Sisters," says The Hollywood Reporter.

He will play Stan Hirsh, the high school boyfriend of Nora Walker (Sally Field), on the ABC Studios show.

It is shaping up to be a busy romantic season for Nora who also has a new love interest played by Danny Glover.

Chase is set to begin filming "Brothers & Sisters" on Thursday.

Brothers & Sisters has added another name to its cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 26-year-old actress Emily Rose has landed a multi-episode arc on the ABC family drama. She is expected to appear in eight episodes, wherein she will play Lena, Rebecca Harper's (Emily Van Camp) high-school friend. Lena becomes an employee of the family's company and creates some trouble.

Emily Rose's most recent television role was on the HBO drama, John From Cincinnati. On the series, Rose played Cass, a filmmaker hired by Linc Stark (Luke Perry) to create trouble between Mitch (Bruce Greenwood) and his wife, Cissy (Rebecca De Mornay). The show was canceled after only one season.

Prior to John From Cincinnati, Emily Rose appeared in CBS' Smith, which was pulled off the air after three episodes, and the 2006 film Hurricane Party. Currently, she is working as voice artist for the upcoming video game, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. She is also slated to appear in the new season of Jericho, though no details about her character have emerged.

Aside from Emily Rose, Emmy award-nominated actor Danny Glover is also set to appear in the new season of Brothers & Sisters. He will play Nora Walker's (Sally Field) new love interest. His character is Senator Robert McCallister's (Rob Lowe) presidential-campaign manager.

Executive-produced by Ken Olin (Alias), Jon Robin Baitz (The West Wing), and Greg Berlanti (Everwood), Brothers & Sisters follows the story of the Walkers as they try to deal with the secrets the family patriarch left behind, all the while attending to issues of their own. Aside from Field and Van Camp, the series stars Rachel Griffiths (Six Feet Under), Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal), Ron Rifkin (Alias), Patricia Wettig (Prison Break), Balthazar Getty (Alias), Dave Annable (Reunion), Matthew Rhys (Titus), John Pyper-Ferguson (Nightstalker) and Sarah Jane Morris (Felicity).

Multi-Emmy-winning actress Patricia Wettig reveals her character on ABC's hit drama "Brothers & Sisters" will be even more of a thorn in Sally Field's side when the series returns Sept. 30. Wettig's character, Holly, was the mistress of Sally's character Nora's late husband -- and is the mother of their illegitimate daughter -- in case you didn't know.

In the new season, Holly will be enjoying some newfound prosperity, thanks to an inheritance and the fact that her wine business with Nora's son Tommy (Balthazar Getty) is taking off.

"Now that I have this money I begin to wield a little power," notes Wettig. "My character is a little more complex." She points out, "One of the interesting things about a series is that they can pull out a new card and hand it to you. You, as an actor, don't always have all the cards."

Granted, her husband, Ken Olin, is an exec producer of the show, their son, Cliff Olin, is one of the writers, their daughter, Roxy, has a recurring role in the show -- and the role of Holly was written specifically for Wettig. Though it's good to be the queen, Wettig makes it clear she's not one to wield her power. "I never feel like I want to use that card," she says. "People assume that because I've got Ken's ear and Cliff's ear, which I do, that they're working it for me, and that isn't really true.

I was worried about something the other day and I said something to Ken at home, and he said, 'You better call them and get into it because everybody else does. The other cast members are always coming to the writing room and having meetings.' People assume because I have dinner with Ken that somehow I'm covering my bases, but that's not what we talk about that often. I have to stand up for myself and go in there as much as anybody else on the more professional level."

A FEW DEGREES LIGHTER: Kevin Bacon says he's ready to go for some lighter fare after playing the vigilante in "Death Sentence," opening today (8/31), and the currently shooting "Taking Chance," in which he plays a volunteer military escort officer accompanying the body of a slain soldier to his hometown.

However, he says, "Sometimes it's hard to really control that, and it's a combination of two things. One is those are the things that seem to be coming to me now, and also I have to take a certain amount of responsibility for the fact that I seem to be drawn to these roles that are emotional challenges at this point. The last three or four things I've done and the kinds of characters and films I'm finding myself in seem to be what's supposed to be happening in my life for a reason -- and who knows if there'll be another chapter in my life where I can lighten things up a little bit, but that doesn't seem to be my work right now."

Bacon says he's "very happy" with the way "Death Sentence" came out. "It's a very visceral and emotional kind of film," he says. "One of the things I like about it is even though my character is a hero, he's a reluctant hero. He's really a fish out of water who doesn't know how to fight or use a gun." He admits playing such intense characters "does definitely catch up to you. When you wrap on a Friday and you know you have to go back on a Monday, it's sort of hard to completely walk away from it for the weekend, but I think I'm really good at the end of the movie about letting it go."

THE VIDEOLAND VIEW: With their New York-based syndicated "Morning Show With Mike and Juliet" expanding into new markets across the country next month, are hosts Juliet Huddy and Mike Jerrick doing anything special to prepare?

"Mike has been drinking a lot, and I'm shaving my legs right now," answers Juliet. But seriously, the duo admits that their show's first six months turned out to be a useful shakedown period. "There was a point when we started getting a little wacky, tabloidy-Jerry Springerish. There was a shift in the producing staff, with different ideas about what the show should be. They brought in a hypnotist one day. I hate hypnotists. I kept thinking, 'Please, make this end.' It was definitely not our speed," she says.

What is their speed? "What people are talking about today -- the water cooler talk. We're definitely topical," she says -- whether the topic is pedophiles, what's hot on TV and film, goofy stunts, celebrity interviews or sex. Sex gets a lot of attention on their show, and they won't be toning anything down.

"What we talk about is maybe a little edgy," admits Mike, "but people discuss these things hanging out at home. Sometimes we go over the line a little bit, but it's not like we're big perverts."

DON'T MENTION IT: Judge Lynn Toler reports that between her MyNetwork TV "Decision House" and her syndicated "Divorce Court," "My first real break won't be until the second week of October." But she's not complaining about the load of having two shows, even though she commutes to L.A. for production from the Phoenix home she shares with her husband, an accountant, and their two sons. "My husband is good about it. He's been really supportive. If something goes wrong at the house and I'm out of town, he never tells me."

She'll appear in one episode this fall, but it's likely she'll be back for more. In the episode, Courtney goes on a Larry King Live-type talk show to discuss her estranged hubby's bid for the White House — further inflaming tensions between the two.

Since Hinkle is a series regular on Men, it's safe to say that she had to get CBS and Warner Bros.' OK before committing to B&S.

The first season of Brothers & Sisters is coming out on DVD next month. The six-disc set contains all 23 episodes of the ABC drama series, as well as a number of bonus features.

The features included in the DVD are “Walker Family Tree,” which is the story behind the making of Brothers & Sisters, “Set Tour with Dave [Annable], Balt [Getty] and Matt [Rhys],” “Family Business,” which serves as an introduction to the Olin clan, the family on which the series is based, a blooper reel, deleted scenes and audio commentaries.

When news about the DVD first came out in June, one of the features said to be included in the DVD was an unaired episode of Brothers & Sisters. However, a press release from Disney followed later that month, changing the title of the feature from “Un-Aired Bonus Episode” to “Bonus Episode: A Different View of the Walkers.” Although no formal announcement has been made regarding what exactly the episode is, tvshowsondvd said it is most likely the alternate version of the series' pilot episode, considering the original pilot had different cast members.

Created by Jon Robin Baitz, Brothers & Sisters follows the lives of the Walkers after the death of the family patriarch, William Walker (Tom Skerritt). Throughout the series, secrets are revealed, forcing widower Nora (Sally Field), and their five children- Sarah (Rachel Griffiths), Kitty (Calista Flockhart), Tommy (Getty), Justin (Rhys) and Kevin (Annable)- to deal with the revelations while sorting out issues of their own.

Other cast members include Rob Lowe (The West Wing, The Lyon's Den) as Robert McCallister, Patricia Wettig (Prison Break, Alias, Thirtysomething) as Holly Harper, and Emily VanCamp (Everwood) as Rebecca.

The first season DVD of Brothers & Sisters will be available by September 18 and will retail for $59.99. Meanwhile, the second season of the drama series is set to premiere on September 30.

Ausiello: Not much scoop was procured during my set visit, unfortunately. For starters, the cast just started shooting and, as they reminded me, I know more about the coming season than they do. (It's true.) And secondly, I spent almost the entire time shooting the you-know-what with BFFs David Annable and Emily VanCamp, the latter of which, believe it or not, I had never met in person. Needless to say, there was much mutual fawning to do. Wait a second, I did uncover a little scooplet on the set: Nora and Kevin are converting to Republicanism. At least that's the story they'll use when a right-leaning cop pulls them over for speeding. In other news, Luke MacFarlane is returning for a string of episodes, to keep Kevin company until Viva Laughlin's inevitable cancellation frees up Eric Winter.

Actress receives Emmy Nod...

Brothers & Sisters actresses Sally Field and Rachel Griffiths are among this year's Primetime Emmy Award nominees.

Field, who portrays Nora Holden Walker on Brothers & Sisters, is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She is up against The Closer's Kyra Sedgwick, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's Mariska Hargitay, Medium's Patricia Arquette, The Riches' Minnie Driver and The Sopranos' Edie Falco.

This is Sally Field's fifth Emmy nomination. In 1977, she won her first Primetime Emmy award, and it was for her role in the series, Sybil. She earned her second acting Emmy in 2001, for her guest role in NBC's long-running medical drama, ER.

Aside from conquering the Emmy Award, Sally Field is also the recipient of two Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Lead Role, one for the film Norma Rae, and other for the film Places in the Heart.

As for Rachel Griffiths, the 38-year-old actress is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Sarah Walker Whedon on Brothers & Sisters. Other actresses who are nominated in the same category are The Sopranos' Aida Turturro and Lorraine Bracco and Grey's Anatomy's Katherine Heigl, Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh.

This is the third Emmy nomination for Rachel Griffiths. Her first two nominations were for her role on HBO's Six Feet Under. The first Emmy nod was for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series while the second was for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

In 1999, Griffiths received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work on the 1998 film, Hilary and Jackie.

Rachel Griffiths is not the only Australian actress who has received an Emmy nod this year. Toni Collette and Judy Davis, who appeared in Tsunami: The Aftermath and The Starter Wife, respectively, are nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie.

The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air in September.

It took a year, but the CW (the network cobbled together from the ashes of the WB and UPN) is finally starting to look like a real network, albeit one aggressively and obsessively focused on the 18-34 youth market. Which no doubt is causing more than a few existential crises among those longtime vets of the TCA press tour who said goodbye to that demo a while ago.

Dawn Ostroff, the network’s relentlessly perky entertainment president, took a “no regrets” approach to her upbeat presentation Friday morning. She’s serious about tapping into trends with her programming and with various online/digital offshoots (especially where the new teen soap Gossip Girl is concerned), but otherwise, there’s something kind of refreshing about a network that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

There was loud laughter in the room during clips of the CW’s various lightweight reality shows, including a first look at the new twist on guilty-pleasure fave Beauty and the Geek, in which for the first time there will be a team made up of a male “beauty” (whom one of the reporters spotted as a professional actor) teamed with a female “geek.” (“The experiment has evolved,” boomed the announcer.) Other titles include The Farmer Wants a Wife and Crowned, a campy mother-daughter beauty pageant in which each elimination involved a “de-sashing.”

There was also hooting when Ostroff revealed that Asia, the winner of last season’s Pussycat Dolls reality show, has chosen to embark on a solo career instead. This year’s follow-up Pussycat Dolls series will be about the forming of a new all-girl band: Girlicious. I can hardly wait.

Turn your nose up if you will, but a youth-oriented network like the CW can hardly afford not to dive into the reality marketplace. Dishy and glam, in the tradition of breakout hit America’s Next Top Model, appears to be the model for the CW’s future.

Still, the real buzz around the CW this fall is being generated by its new scripted shows, which was a big change from a year ago, when it looked like the network was relying too heavily on tired franchises from the WB and UPN's past. They tried to coast along with shows like 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill and the notoriously hard-sell Veronica Mars, about whose ratings woes Ostroff admitted, “We were never able to crack.” Of Gilmore Girls, she repeated her contention that “it was time to move on,” a sentiment with which I agree.

Ostroff defended the modest development slate of a year ago, in which only the short-lived serialized thriller Runaway and the innocuous Girlfriends spin-off The Game (renewed for a second season) were presented to critics. “It would have been too much heavy lifting” to launch too many new shows while trying to rebrand and relaunch an entire network in nine months, Ostroff said.

Better late than never, I guess. The shows on the CW’s new fall schedule are not only brand-appropriate — for the most part, they’re good. Ostroff calls them “network-defining shows,” and she could be right.

The hottest prospects include Gossip Girl, from The O.C.’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, which is stirring the most critical controversy of any of the CW’s offerings because of its hedonistic look at privileged, self-absorbed prep-school urbanites. (As I wrote earlier this summer about the CW's failed Hidden Palms, these kids drink more than the Walkers of Brothers & Sisters, and that family owns a vineyard.) Ostroff rolled out the buzzwords “heightened reality” to shrug off any complaints, and said there would be consequences for the young characters’ more reckless behavior as the show goes on.

Gossip Girl feels like something from WB’s glory days: The kids are hyperarticulate and precociously caught up in sexual and social intrigues, but it remains to be seen if it can be critically embraced like Dawson’s Creek and Felicity (doubtful) or dismissed as trash like One Tree Hill.

Much more promising creatively are two terrifically entertaining new series. Reaper, airing Tuesdays after Geek, is a horror-comedy about a slacker named Sam (The Loop’s Bret Harrison) whose parents sold his soul to the devil (the wryly hilarious Ray Wise, whom we’ve loved since Twin Peaks). Fantastically wacky mayhem ensues when the devil puts Sam to work as a bounty hunter haplessly trying to send escaped evildoers back to Hell. Joining Monday’s lineup as a smart companion piece to Everybody Hates Chris is Aliens in America, a sweetly barbed satirical family comedy about a geeky high-schooler whose adolescent torment is magnified when his family brings in an exotic exchange student: a Pakistani Muslim (winningly played by Adhir Kalyan, a non-Muslim from South Africa). As comedies about prejudice goes, this is a huge step above ABC’s one-note Cavemen (inspired, if that’s the word, from the Geico ads).

Even the CW’s attempt to keep the 7th Heaven family vibe alive is a little out of the norm. Life Is Wild (based on the British series Wild at Heart, which is continuing in production on the same South African sets), transplants an awkwardly blended New York family to an animal preserve in South Africa, where the dad works as a veterinarian. In a satellite press conference, the handsome actors (including newly cast D.W. Moffett and Everwood’s Stephanie Niznik as the parents) were upstaged by the wild animals on set, including a purring cougar prowling the room and an adorable feline cub nestled in Moffett’s lap.

The tone on the CW’s day at TCAs couldn’t be more different from a year ago, when the critics’ claws were definitely out. I wouldn’t say we’ve been tamed, exactly, but it’s funny how a few good shows can create a feeling of wait-and-see goodwill.

Danny Glover joins cast...

Actor Danny Glover has been tapped to appear in the second season of the family drama, Brothers & Sisters, which stars Oscar winner Sally Field. This will mark Glover’s first appearance in television since 2005, when he guest-starred in four episodes of NBC’s long-running medical drama, ER.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Danny Glover will have a recurring role on the show, but the number of episodes wherein he will appear has yet to be announced.

The 60-year-old actor is most known for his portrayal of LAPD veteran detective Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon series. Having been acting professionally since the late 1970’s, Danny Glover has had an extensive career in Hollywood, racking up many acting recognitions along the way. Aside from all four Lethal Weapon films, the actor has appeared in such popular films as A Color Purple, Maverick, Operation Dumbo Drop, The Royal Tenenbaums, Dreamgirls and Shooter.

Glover’s character in Brothers & Sisters will serve as the new love interest of Sally Field’s character, Nora. William Walker (Tom Skerritt), Nora’s husband, suffered a heart attack and died in the series’ premiere episode. Following his death, secrets surrounding another side of his life were exposed. Apparently, William had inappropriately borrowed money from the family company’s funds and was keeping a mistress, with whom he has one child.

With all the complications presented by William’s double life, the Walker children have been faced with the struggle to forgive and move on, all the while trying to resolve issues of their own.

Aside from Sally Field, the main cast of Brothers & Sisters also include Rachel Griffiths as Sarah, Balthazar Getty as Tommy, Matthew Rhys as Kevin, Dave Annable as Justin, and Calista Flockhart as Kitty.

Fans of the show can relive the entire debut season of the by availing of the DVD in September. The six-disc collection has been priced at $59.99.

Actor Promotes Tax credit...

Rob Lowe has taken his onscreen political role to real life. The 43-year-old actor, who plays a senator from California on Brothers & Sisters, isn’t running for office but has appeared before lawmakers last Thursday to promote tax credits for people who add a plug-in feature to hybrid cars and trucks.

"I have been driving this car around and I have to tell you, it did what my mother couldn't do. It did what my driving instructor couldn't do — it's made me a better driver," the Brothers & Sisters actor said.

In line with this, he promoted plug-in hybrids, which have both electric and gasoline motors, plus a battery pack that can be recharged at home.

This wasn’t Lowe’s first time to campaign for a cause. Previously, he testified before a special House panel looking at energy and global warming issues. He also explained that his interest in clean energy was not new and was inspired by past events that led him to take more action.

"The first money I ever made and was able to invest, I invested in an alternative energy company going back 25 years," he said. "Like a lot of Americans, I've been watching as the climate changes and as we are in a war on terror where our oil addiction helps fund people that want to kill us. It's gotten my attention."

Lowe, a native of Charlottesville, Virginia, is known for his roles on The West Wing as Sam Seaborn, St. Elmo’s Fire as Billy Hixx, and The Outsiders as Sodapop Curtis.

Aside from the television series Brothers & Sisters, in which he will be featured as a series regular this coming fall, Lowe has other upcoming projects in the big screen. He will be featured in the horror-thriller Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming, which will hit the theaters on August 11.
